Bizman killed, one critically injured as criminals fire, hurl bombs at them

A businessman was killed and another one was critically injured after some criminals fired at them and hurled bombs at Rabindranagar in Chinsurah on Thursday morning.

No one has been arrested in this connection so far. Superintendent of Police, Hooghly, Sukesh Jain went to the spot. A strong police picket has been posted to maintain peace and a massive hunt is on to nab the criminals. The deceased was identified as Tarak Biswas. He was the owner of a shop dealing with construction materials.

According to eyewitnesses, nine criminals came on three motorbikes at around 8 am. They fired at Biswas from a close range. He fell on the ground in a pool of blood. The criminals hurled bombs while fleeing. The splinters hit Abhishek Halder. He was taken to Hooghly Imambara Hospital from where he was brought to the city. Biswas was also taken to the hospital where he was declared brought dead.

The Superintendent of Police said a hunt was on for the miscreants. A police picket was posted in the areas and RAF personnel conducted a route march. Local people said that two local criminals, Toton Das and Bishal Biswas were engaged in gang wars for quite some time. Das is in jail and so Biswas' henchmen are trying to establish their control over the area. They said that on Thursday morning, Bishal along with his gang members raided the area and spotted Tarak who was sitting in a shop. Tarak is close to Das. They fired at him and left the area hurling bombs to scare people. The whole operation took less than 10 minutes. Attracted by the sound of firing, local people came out and saw Tarak lying on the road in a pool of blood. They took him to the hospital where he was declared dead.

Local people alleged that despite repeated complaints, police did not take any action to stop the gang war. The criminals get extortion money from local businessmen and shop owners and so both the gangs try to control the area.
