Birla Museum to host 44th edition of Eastern India Science Fair from Jan 8-12
Kolkata: The 44th edition of Eastern India Science Fair at Birla Industrial and Technological Museum to be held from January 8 to 12 will witness participation from around 550 students representing as many as 13 states of eastern India including Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
"The participants will put on display as many as 250 science models and explain to the visitors the concept behind each of one of the models. A number of leading schools from the city and the state will visit the fair. This fair is an effort on our part to arouse interest in science among common people, particularly the students and to inculcate the idea that science is actually fun, if it can be explained in an interesting manner," said Gautam Seal, technical officer of BITM.
The models that will be on display have been selected after competitions at district and state level. In Bengal, the competitions at the district and state level have been conducted successfully in collaboration with the state Youth Affairs department.
The concept behind the model will be the same as it had been at district and state level, but there will be qualitative improvement of the models on the basis of inputs from teachers and experts.
The Engineering Fair will also be held simultaneously at BITM which will see participation from students from both undergraduate and post graduate level from Bengal and a number of neighbouring eastern states.
Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi will inaugurate the fair in presence of BITM director V S Ramachandran on January 8. The exhibition hours will be 4 to 5 pm on January 8, 10.00 am to 5.00 pm from January 9 to 11 and 10 am to 3.30 pm on January 12. The BITM at present is hosting spectacular live open air science experiments everyday. It has been launched on December 26 and will continue till January 7.
