Biker sustains minor injuries after bus hits vehicle near Keshtopur
Kolkata: An auto rickshaw driver and a biker sustained minor injuries after a bus hit both the vehicles near Keshtopur on VIP Road while allegedly competing with another bus. The incident happened around noon on Tuesday. Later the bus driver was detained and prosecuted as per the law.
Sources informed that around 12 pm a bus from Route number 217 hit a bike between Dum Dum Park and Keshtopur bus stoppage.
Seeing the vehicle close in on him, the biker jumped from his bike and got saved. But his bike went under the wheels of the bus and got heavily damaged.
The bus driver tried to flee after hitting the bike but instead hit an auto rickshaw. As a result, the auto toppled and its driver got injured. Soon, the locals surrounded the bus and detained the driver. The conductor somehow managed to escape. The traffic police personnel at Keshtopur were informed. Police sent the auto driver to a nursing home in Jora Mandir where he was treated and discharged by afternoon.
Passengers of the bus alleged that the errant driver was competing with another bus of the same route. Despite repeated requests from a number of passengers asking him to drive safely, he did not bother. Later, an officer from Baguiati Traffic Guard prosecuted the bus driver for rash and negligent driving.
In another incident, a hatchback car rammed into a median divider of the road near Exide Crossing on Tuesday morning.
Two persons, including the driver, sustained minor injuries. Police sources informed that the driver stated that he was following GPS navigation while driving and as a result failed to keep an eye on the road.
By the time he had spotted the median divider, it was too late and he lost control of the vehicle which was at a high speed. Police rushed the two injured to a hospital with help from the locals.
