Bidhannagar Police seizes banned firecrackers
Kolkata: Bidhannagar Police has seized a huge quantity of banned firecrackers in the past 24 hours.
Acting on tip-offs, the police conducted raids at various places in Rajarhat and seized a huge amount of firecrackers. A senior police officer said various firecrackers including paper sky lanterns have also been seized.
It may be mentioned that the Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate has restricted hoisting of paper sky lanterns, commonly known as phanush, in the vicinity of the airport. The police had issued an order prohibiting hoisting of paper sky lanterns and beaming of laser lights in the area under the jurisdiction of NSCBI Airport Police Station, Baguiati Police Station, Airport Police Station and Narayanpur Police Station.
Now, the cops are taking all sorts of measures to check bursting of firecrackers.
Raids have been initiated much ahead of Kali Puja and Diwali to check smuggling of banned firecrackers.
From Rajarhat, the police seized 2,700 pieces of rockets, 792 chocolate bombs, 22 paper sky lanterns, 410 dodomas, 62 chain crackers including 46 pieces of other banned firecrackers.
Meanwhile, raids were also conducted in the house of one Kalipada Dutta on Friday morning and banned firecrackers were seized.
Around 1,400 pieces of paper sky lanterns weighing around 125 kilograms were seized from Dutta's house. Moreover, 576 dodomas and various other types of banned firecrackers were also seized.
Besides conducting raids to seize banned firecrackers, the police are also creating awareness among people so that everyone follows the order of the Supreme Court in connection with bursting of firecrackers.
