Bharati Ghosh appears before Midnapore district court
Kolkata: A few days after the Supreme Court granted her protection from arrest, former IPS officer Bharati Ghosh, who recently joined the BJP, appeared before the Midnapore district court responding to a summon related to an extortion case against her.
Ghosh joined the BJP earlier in February this year. Ghosh was allowed to narrate her version before the court after which the Public Prosecutor (PP) opposed the statements made by her. Apart from the statements made by Ghosh, her lawyer submitted few documents related to the case as well.
Pleading not guilty, the former SP claimed on Saturday that all the cases brought against her were false.
Ghosh appeared before the court in connection with the extortion case lodged by a businessman with Daspur police station in West Midnapore. It was alleged that some police officers had taken 375 gram of gold without paying him. The complaint was filed on February 1, 2018, which was a few weeks after her removal. Her husband MAV Raju was arrested earlier in this case.
Later, a few months ago, the CID arrested one Sujit Mondal from Delhi who used to be a constable of the state police and was engaged as the security personnel of Ghosh during her tenure as the SP.
Sources informed that the BJP is trying to use Ghosh in Jhargram to work for the party as she had served there as the SP and by virtue of her work she knows the area very well.
