Bhangar villagers protest against land mafias

The local people in Bhangar staged demonstration protesting against the land mafias' attempts to take away land for a real estate project on Friday.

The local residents alleged that their crops were being destroyed at night by the land mafias. The sole intention of those culprits was to take away land for a real estate project.

Hundreds of villagers of Langalbaki village at Bhangar took part in the protest. They also alleged that police did not take steps against the land mafias.

The villagers, most of whom are farmers, alleged that the land mafias threatened to destroy their crops.

The villagers also alleged that the land mafias already destroyed a huge amount of crops on Wednesday night. It should be recalled that villagers ran riot at Bhangar protesting the setting up of a power grid there.

Later, the state government declared to stop the project from Bhangar.

State Power minister Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay, however, had earlier claimed that, some people with ill-interests were trying to mislead the people of Bhangar.

He said that the state government had decided not to set up the power grid on that specific land.

But despite such decision by the state, some political parties were trying to create unrest over poor political will. He had also warned them that their conspiracy will not be tolerated.
