Bhangar denizens block roads to protest against bombing

Fresh trouble broke out at Bhangar in South 24 Parganas on Sunday with local people putting up a roadblock protesting against bombing in their villages by some local goons.

The local people put up roadblocks by laying tree trucks and bamboos protesting against the incident. They threatened of continuing the road block till a villager, Sheikh Ahad Ali, was released by the police. He was picked up by the police on Sunday morning.

It may be mentioned that in early January, local people staged a demonstration protesting against setting up of a power grid sub-station in Bhangar. The trouble led to the death of two villagers and police vehicles were torched. The situation came under control after the police was withdrawn.

But Saturday night's bombing in Bhangar once against incited the trouble. Local people claimed that some goons had hurled bombs outside their houses. They also pelted bombs at villagers and thrashed some of them.

The villagers had tried to catch some of them but they failed apprehending that the miscreants would hurl bombs at them if they proceeded towards them.

In the morning the police picked up Ahad, who was known to be a crucial leader of the movement against setting up of the power grid sub-station, and took him to police station for questioning.

Hundreds of people, mainly the women, came out of their houses to block the movements of vehicles on important thoroughfares after finding out that the police had picked up Ahad.

They demanded release of Ahad and threatened to continue with their roadblock. Roads were closed at Cossipore, Padmapukur and Shyamnagar areas in Bhangar and it led to the trouble. They placed huge tree trucks across the roads. It led to a huge traffic congestions in the area.
