Bengal govt set to observe Hul Divas today
Kolkata: The Mamata Banerjee government will be observing Hul Divas on Saturday to commemorate the fight of Santhals against the British Raj in 1885.
The state government holds the state-level Hul Divas every year. This year, the programme to observe Hul Divas will be organised at Jhargram, Bankura, Purulia, Birbhum and Kolkata.
There will be two programmes in Jhargram and one each at the four other places.
Senior ministers will be present at all the venues. Rajib Banerjee, the Backward Classes Welfare minister and minister of state for the Information and Cultural Affairs department Indranil Sen, will be present in the programme that will be held at Rabindra Sadan in Kolkata.
The event at Rabindra Sadan will begin at 5 pm and there will be different cultural programmes as part of the event.
It may be recalled that last year, the Maoists who returned to mainstream life, were involved in performing different cultural activities in Hul Utsav.
The state Backward Classes Welfare minister has taken steps to ensure fast disposal of certificates and at the same time, several projects have been taken to ensure that the people from the backward classes become self-dependent.
It may be mentioned that in the past seven years, the Mamata Banerjee government has taken several steps for the benefit of the people from backward classes.
