Bengal CID arrests Bharati Ghosh's bodyguard from Delhi

Kolkata: The state Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has arrested former IPS officer Bharati Ghosh's bodyguard Sujit Mondal from New Delhi on Saturday. Mondal

was hiding in a hotel at Panchsheel Park.

According to sources, Sujit was engaged as Ghosh's security person when she was in service. After she resigned, Mondal left with her. Since then, there was no trace of Ghosh and Mondal.

On June 29 this year, the CID submitted a charge-sheet at Ghatal Court in which Mondal and Ghosh were shown as absconding. Later a look-out notice was issued.

On July 4, Mondal managed to escape from the custody of Mumbai Police. CID officers came to know that Mondal was threatening someone to lodge a false complaint against Chandan Majhi, the complainant of the case. Mondal went to LT Marg in Mumbai. The investigating officers also came to know that Mondal was threatening one Swapan to lodge the false complaint against Majhi or else he would file a false case against him.

Immediately, the CID officers requested Mumbai Police to detain him. Without wasting any time, a team comprising senior CID officers left for Mumbai. When they reached Mumbai, they came to

know that Mondal had managed to give a slip to the Mumbai Police.

A few days ago, the CID officials received information that Mondal could be hiding in a hotel in New Delhi. To disguise himself, Mondal grew his beard. But that did not help him much. On Saturday morning, a CID team raided the hotel in Panchsheel Park and arrested him. He will be produced before a local court on Sunday with a prayer for transit remand.

Sleuths claimed that Mondal knew all about Ghosh's acts as he was one of the close aides of Ghosh during her tenure as the SP.

On February 1, 2018, Chandan Majhi lodged a complaint with Daspur police station in West Midnapore alleging that some police officers had taken 375 grams of gold without paying him. Interestingly, this complaint was filed a few weeks after Bharati Ghosh's removal. Later CID arrested Ghosh's husband MAV Raju in this case.
