Barasat under complete lockdown for 7 days
Kolkata: Barasat municipality has decided to maintain lockdown throughout its entire area for seven days from Thursday to check the spread of Covid infection.
The decision was taken in an all party meeting at the Barasat municipality on Tuesday.
It was decided that a portion of Barasat stadium would be used as Covid hospital as the infection rate has gone up. All the shops except those involved in emergency services like medicine shops, milk will remain open between 7 am and 1 pm.
It will continue for seven days. The municipal board will then carry out an assessment through an all party meeting and would take a decision whether the lockdown will be extended.
"We are trying to set up safe homes in Barasat for the people and families who have to share toilets. Chances of infection are high for those who share bathrooms and live within congested areas. We also feel the need of starting another Covid nursing home in Barasat. We would discuss the matter with the health department," a senior official of the municipality said.
It may be mentioned here that North 24-Pargsnas district administration has been rigorously implementing lockdown in the containment
policies in the specific pockets which have already been identified as high infection
zones.
