Bangladeshi arrested with 491 fake Indian currency notes

Kolkata: North 24-Parganas police have arrested a Bangladeshi national from the bordering areas of Bongaon and recovered fake Indian currency notes from his possession.

The accused has been identified as Sukur Ali who is a resident of Nababgunje district of Bangladesh.

According to the preliminary investigation, the police suspect the accused might be a part of an international fake currency racket operating from the state. They are, however, investigating into the incident further to know about the involvement of the other people.

Police said 491 fake notes of Rs 2,000 denomination were recovered from his possession. A costly mobile phone, a Bangladeshi passport and Rs 5,500 cash were also seized. It was learnt that the Border Security Force intercepted the accused from Angrail border under Gaighata police station and later handed him over to the police.

The police suspect the fake currency notes were smuggled into the country from Bangladesh. The investigating officers are not ruling out the possibility of fake notes being printed in our neighbouring country. They are trying to know about the modus operandi.
