Balurghat MP hopeful of second term
BALURGHAT: Trinamool leader and Balurghat MP Arpita Ghosh looks confident to retain the power of Balurghat Municipality. Official sources informed the election is expected to be held by the middle of November.
On Monday, Ghosh presided over a meeting at civic body premises with councillors and officials to gear up the pending development projects already undertaken by the present Trinamool board. She advised the civic authority for a thorough campaigning before civic inhabitants about various projects that had been completed successfully so far.
"A meeting was held on Monday with civic officials, councillors and members. Civic chairman, Rajen Shill also attended the meeting. I told them to finish incomplete projects before upcoming civic elections. Many projects have already completed successfully during the tenure of present board while a few among pending projects are about to finish," Ghosh said.
According to her, civic residents have right to know the projects that had been completed so far. "I directed the concerned officials to highlight them through campaigning so that the inhabitants know what those projects were," she said.
In a recent move, the present board has retained 650 casual workers who were mostly recruited through NGOs in different times during the Left regime.
Meanwhile, the civic board has undertaken a megaproject to build up a housing complex for homeless persons at Khadimpur Loknath Mandirpara area within two months on its own ground. "The party has strong ground in Balurghat. We are confident enough to retain Balurghat Municipality again. While we came to rule the board, there was corruption everywhere and misappropriation of funds during the misrule of Left. It was our stress to run the board systematically," Ghosh said.
