Balurghat conducts safety drive among school students

BALURGHAT: Balurghat traffic police conducted a 'Safe Drive Save Life' programme with the students of a local high school in Balurghat on Friday morning. The programme was led by the Officer-in-Charge (traffic) of Balurghat, Utpal Chatterjee.

The programme started at around 12.05 pm and continued till 12.45 pm. Around 50 students of Balurghat BM High School participated in the programme.

"The main aim was make students conscious about the road safety rules. School as we all know is the society's miniature and they should learn about the rules of traffic law," said OC (traffic) Utpal Chatterjee.

Apart from the school students, trained officials and civic volunteers of police took part in the programme.

In the view of growing road accidents in Bengal, the Mamata Banerjee government has introduced SDSL campaign to bring down street mishaps and better

traffic measures.

"We have targetted to make people in the district especially young pupils aware and instill a better road discipline in them. We are working relentlessly to give it a success. We are happy to say SDSL drive helps to reduce the number of accident in the district over the past two years," Chatterjee said.

Police have, however, said a section of people is still ignorant about traffic rules and safe driving measures. They are also reluctant to even understand that their lives are precious.
