Baisakhi's husband removed from JU Executive Council

Kolkata: Manojit Mandal, professor of the English Department of Jadavpur University, has been removed from the Executive Council (EC) of the varsity.

Mondal is the husband of Baisakhi Bandyopadhyay, who had joined BJP on August 14 along with former Kolkata Mayor Sovan Chatterjee.

"It is a routine transfer and has nothing to do with any political matter. He has already completed two years. Such transfers have been made in some other areas too," said state Education minister Partha Chatterjee.

Mandal has been the member of EC, the highest decision making body of the varsity, for the last two years. The tenure of an EC member as per terms of the state government is four years.

Sources in the Education department said that Soma Bandyopadhyay, Vice-Chancellor of The West Bengal University of Teachers Training Education Planning and Administration, has been nominated as an EC member in place of Mandal.
