Auto-driver accused of molesting female passenger, arrested

Kolkata: An auto-driver was arrested for allegedly molesting a woman repeatedly. Police informed that the accused auto driver, Haradhan Das. made several attempts to get the complainant's mobile number and also touched her with bad intention while riding his auto.

Sources informed that on September 27, the victim boarded Das's auto from 206 bus stand. While boarding, Das insisted her to sit in front beside him. Soon after he started driving, he touched the victim's body several times. He also asked for her mobile number.

The woman immediately got down from the auto and boarded a bus to reach her destination.

Again on October 6, same thing was repeated as she boarded the same auto again without noticing the driver.

She again got down from that auto. On Tuesday, when she was waiting at BD block bus stand, the same auto driver arrived with his auto bearing registration number WB 25D 8444 and harassed her again. Das allegedly passed lewd comments at the victim and fled the scene as there was more people at the bus stand. The victim managed to note down the auto number and later traced his name.

Following the last incident, she went to Bidhannagar North Police Station and lodged a complaint against Das.

Upon getting the complaint, police traced Das through their informers and arrested him.

He was booked under section 354D (stalking) and 354 (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) Of the Indian Penal Code.
