Atleast 718 patients released from hospitals in past 24 hours
Kolkata: Infection rate of COVID-19 in the city has been on a declining curve as Bengal has recorded a further dip in the single day infection on Tuesday. Around 1,390 new Covid cases were reported in the past 24 hours.
Bengal had seen 1,435 new cases on Monday which was little lower than the Sunday's figure of 1,560. The total number of infected persons across the state has gone up to 32,838 till Tuesday. As many as 718 patients have been released from various hospitals in the state in the past 24 hours which is a record so far. A total of 19,931 patients have already been released from the hospitals after they recovered. The discharge rate of the state stands at 60.69 per cent on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, home secretary of the state Alapan Bandyopadhyay who was earlier appointed as nodal officer of Kolkata on Tuesday held a meeting with the chairperson of the board of administrators of Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) and other senior police officers to strengthen surveillance in the containment zones of the
city.
After the meeting Bandyopadhyay said that the meeting was held to discuss how more safe homes and satellite centers can be constructed. It was also discussed on how the number of institutional quarantine facilities can be increased. It would also be seen how links between the satellite centers and the hospitals would be increased.
"We are trying to utilize the Kolkata police control room and KMC control room in a better way. The health department is also trying to develop a portal which would provide a combined inventory of data regarding the Nabanna facilities
and public facilities," Bandyopadhyay further added. The state has so far carried out a total 6,38,540 COVID sample tests till Tuesday. Around 11,102 sample tests were conducted in the past 24 hours.
The percentage of positive cases out of sample tested stands at 5.14 per cent on Tuesday.
Around 24 persons have died in the past 24 hours and the total death toll across the state has reached 980 in the state. Two senior officials of the Calcutta High Court have reportedly been affected with Covid.
Kolkata has seen 524 new COVID cases in the past 24 hours which is a record so far. The total number of infected patients in Kolkata has so far reached 10,550. Around 293 new cases have been found in North 24-Parganas in the past 24 hours. Howrah has seen a total 4,239 cases so far out of which 119 patients have been reported on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Shukti Pandey, wife of state Consumer Affairs minister Sadhan Pandey tested COVID- 19 positive on Tuesday.
She has been put under home isolation. Her brother Sankar Banerjee died of COVID- 19 on Sunday. Samir Putatunda, PDS secretary was also tested positive and has been put under home
isolation.
