Many of the medical aspirants from Bengal appearing in NEET this year wrongly filled up their application forms as the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), assigned to conduct the exam did not allegedly co-operate with the state government in providing information relating to reserved category seats.
As a result of this, neither the state government nor the students belonging to various reserved categories, have a clear idea over the procedure of the filling up of the application forms.
State government would admit candidates in 85 per cent of state quota seats on the basis of the merit list provided to them by the CBSE.
But the students belonging to SC, ST, OBC and PH groups would not be adjudged properly in the examination as they would be treated as unreserved students in the national level.
The whole confusion was created as the notification released by the CBSE on the procedure of examination did not mention any specific information relating to the unreserved categories.
As per the rule of the state government for admission candidates in 85 per cent state quota seats, Domicile Certificate has to be collected by candidates appearing for the state seats before filling up of online application.
As the NEET 2017 Information Bulletin did not provide any information relating to this, the candidates filled up the application forms without collecting the Domicile Certificate and other certificates. Rules say that candidates seeking admission to Medical/Dental Colleges for 85 per cent seats must be domicile of Bengal.
But most of the candidates did not collect domicile certificate before filing up the application.
Candidates belonging to state OBC list were in a fix as the state list is not included in the Central list. As a result of this, the state OBC students fear that they would not be able to enjoy the reservation following the decision of the Centre.
According to the notification, many castes and communities of State OBC list are not included in the Central OBC list.
The online NEET 2017 application is set as per Central OBC list. Due to insufficiency of software programming, the CBSE could not include the state government-certified OBC candidates in the Central OBC.
