ASI shot at by constable, sustains injury

An Assistant Sub-Inspector of police Bidhan Chakraborty who was posted at Dankuni police station sustained a bullet injury when a police constable Satrughan Singh fired at him from his service rifle following a heated exchange of words between the two.
The incident took place at the industrial area of Dankuni in Hooghly district on Tuesday night.
The victim was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital. The doctors said that there is no life threat for the victim as the bullet had just grazed his shoulder. According to the sources, the victim was sitting in the front seat of the pilot car and the accused constable was sitting at the back seat of the same vehicle. When the car was standing on National Highway 2, the duo engaged in a quarrel inside the pilot van. A heated altercation soon broke out, leading to a scuffle.
The ASI was waiting to join a VIP duty. Following the scuffle, the accused fired at the victim. The other police personnel in the other pilot cars rushed to the spot and rescued the victim and rushed him to a nearby hospital.
Police have arrested the accused and seized the rifle. It has been learnt that there was a long-standing problem between the accused and the victim.
Chakraborty suffered an injury on his left shoulder. Police are investigating to know the exact reason behind their quarrel. A probe has been initiated into the incident.
