Anandapur case: Prime accused arrested

Kolkata: The prime accused of molestation and hit-and-run case of Anandapur, Abhishek Pandey has been arrested on Tuesday night from near Dum Dum area while he was going to one of his friend's place.

On Wednesday he was produced at the ACJM, Alipore Court and has been remanded to police custody till September 16.

According to sources, during the investigation, police came to know the woman who lodged complaint against Pandey knew each other for the past five years and they were about to get married. But due to lockdown the woman's mother failed to come to the city for final discussion from Jalpaiguri.

While tracking Pandey and cops scrutinised the call details of him and the woman. They found that both of them were in touch after the incident took place on Saturday night. Later when the woman was interrogated she confessed that she knew Pandey and told him that due to pressure she lodged a complaint against him. But she would settle the matter soon. Police also came to know that on Saturday night an altercation took place between them over marriage and few other personal issues.

Sources informed that during police custody of Pandey, cops may make the woman sit face to face with him during interrogation. However, Pandey has been slapped with several charges like attempt to commit culpable homicide, voluntarily causing hurt, assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty and few others. In the past few days Pandey had been hiding in several places across the city and had switched off his phone.
