Alleged distortion of Tagore's poem sparks row
KOLKATA: Controversy sparked off as Rabindranath Tagore's poem was "allegedly distorted" in a poster of BJP and photograph of the same was uploaded in social media.
The poster carries two lines of Rabindranath Tagore poem 'Chitto Jetha Bhoyshunno' and it is followed by a couple of lines highlighting Prime Minister Narendra Modi stating that he is with the world. A large section of netizens have raised their objection over the same as the lines of Tagore's poem have been replaced with new ones to highlight the Prime Minister.
The poster also carries photograph of Narendra Modi, Amit Shah and the state BJP president Dilip Ghosh. It also claims that the poster was put up on behalf of West Bengal BJP.
Controversy had also broke out when BJP had earlier used clippings of Ritwik Ghatak for campaigning on certain issues on behalf of the party.
This comes at the time when some women and men wrote obscene words on their bodies with colours and distorted Tagore's song at Rabindra Bharati University's BT Road campus.
