All forces should unite against fascist BJP, says Mevani after meeting CM

Kolkata: Dalit leader from Gujarat Jignesh Mevani called on Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at Nabanna on Monday.

The meeting continued for around half an hour. After the meeting, Mevani said: "The agenda for 2019 has to be simple and clear. Each pro-poor, pro-constitution, pro democracy and progressive force has to come together against this fascist BJP."

This comes at the time when the Chief Minister is playing a crucial role in

bringing together all the anti-BJP political parties to ensure a one-to-one fight in the forthcoming 2019 general elections. He further said: "All people should unite against BJP."

When asked about the meeting, he said: "I came here to attend a rally of tribals a few days ago. There was talk on development of tribals. We will keep meeting and discuss various issues."

"But we need to do whatever is needed to save the Indian constitution and our democracy, for the sake of common people," he said, adding that BJP should go out of power in 2019 for the sake of the country and the common people.

It may be recalled that senior leaders of anti-BJP political parties had met the Chief Minister earlier. Youth Patidar leader Hardik Patel held a meeting with Banerjee in February and he had upheld her as the face of the collective fight against the BJP government in the 2019 general elections.

It was in March that Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao met Banerjee at Nabanna and the meeting had marked the beginning of the "federal front" to fight against BJP.
