In a unique move, Aliah University will impart training to shopkeepers who have been allotted stalls in 10 community markets in New Town.
The University has inked an agreement with New Town Kolkata Development Authority ( NKDA) to impart training to the shopkeepers.
The training is freeand will be given by the Business Management department and classes will begin from April 3-7.
The shopkeepers have been divided into 10 batches and each batch will be given a day's training. Every day two batches will be given tutorials.
It was found that many first generation aspirants who had got stalls could not start business as they did not have any traditional family knowledge of the nuances of the particular trade and had faced immense hardships in kicking off a business.
NKDA has constructed 10 community markets in Action Areas I and II in New Town. The stalls have been allotted to general people and allotments have been done through lottery.
The shopkeepers will be imparted training about the various procedures that are required to run a business along with other nuances.
The course has been designed in such a way that it is very user-friendly.
Also, the shopkeepers and stall owners will be taught to deal with customers whose character is also changing quickly.
The stall owners will be taught about various products which they are selling. Those attending the course will be given certificates in the end.
