Aliah University to come up with high-end research facilities
Kolkata: Aliah University will come up with a Central Instrumental Facilities (CIF) to boost high-end research in science and engineering.
The research facilities at the New Town campus of the university will be accessible not only to the students of Aliah but also to students of other institutions against payment of a fee.
"There will be all cutting age modern instruments required by students of science and
engineering for research. Some universities have approached
us with the proposal that they will be using this CIF for research activities. It will
not only be a boost to research activities in the state but also
a source of income for the
university as we will be
charging some fees from outsiders for availing the facilities. There will be no fees for our students," said Mohammad Ali, vice chancellor of Aliah University.
The cost for setting up the infrastructure will be Rs 45 crores and the varsity has already received 50 percent of the funds.
The university has also placed a proposal to the Minority Affairs and Madrasah Education department for setting up a Centre of Excellence (CoE) with assistance from Siemens. The investment will be around Rs 25 crores.
The CoE will have laboratories for Design and Validation, Mechatronics, Robotics, Data Security, Cyber Security, and Internet of Things.
"There are several instances when an engineering or science student after their degree has to undergo a period of training in an industry so that he is
ready for the job. We are hopeful that a student after being trained in these laboratories will be job ready for the industry and will be absorbed immediately after they get their degrees," a senior official of the varsity said.
The university will hold its first ever convocation in
April 2020 and after the convocation it will go for accreditation from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).
