Afghanistan & Congo to take part at boxing event in Hills
Darjeeling: For the first time ever the Queen of the Hills is all set to host an international boxing event "Pro Box Fight Night." Boxers from Afghanistan and Congo will be competing along with Indian boxers.
The Pro Box Fight Night will be held at Amphitheater at the Darjeeling Chowrasta on November 16. "Darjeeling has been an ardent of admirer of sports, games and specially martial arts. The Hills are high on talent in this sphere. We want to revive that culture with such events," said Sisir Moktan, spokesperson, Fitness Warrior Darjeeling.
The event is organised by Fitness Warrior in association with the Indian Boxing Council. In Season 1, India, Afghanistan and Congo will be competing. "Thirty boxers will take part, including 1 from Congo and 2 from Afghanistan along with 4 female boxers. There will be 12 bouts and 2 special bouts. We want to motivate the youth. We want them to be fit and healthy discarding addictions like drugs and even cell phones.
The tournament will promote fitness. Our next step will be to open a boxing academy in the Hills, so that we can produce international-level pro boxers. The proceeds from the tournament will be used to open up the academy," Moktan.
As the event will be held in November and the venue being Chowrasta, the organizers feel that the event will help boost tourism.
