Absentee students seek 60% marks in exam held on bandh day
Kolkata: The students pursuing MA course through correspondence from Burdwan University have demanded that the university authorities must award them 60 percent marks in an examination which was conducted on the day of bandh after they failed to appear for the examination.
The students claimed that they could not appear for the examination as the university authorities had announced about the examination getting postponed only a few days ago, however, uploaded a new notification on their website at around 9 pm on Tuesday night stating that the examination would be conducted as per the earlier schedule on Wednesday.
Students said according to the earlier notification sixth paper of Bengali MA exam was scheduled to take place on Wednesday. But the university authorities later announced the exam would be postponed due to bandh and the next date of conducting the exam would be declared later. All the other papers would be done as per the earlier schedule.
Confusion was created among students following publication of the fresh notification on late Tuesday evening. Many students failed to turn up at the exam hall.
Some of the students who came to the examination centre staged a protest demonstration against the university authorities' decision. The students claimed that they were not mentally prepared for the examination while many others faced inconvenience while coming to the exam centre. Hence, the students urged the university authorities to award 60 per cent marks in Bengali sixth paper to all the students.
