Abhijit Banerjee to be honoured by Presidency

Kolkata: Presidency Alumni Association will give Atul Chandra Gupta Distinguished Alumni Award to Abhijit Vinayak Banerjee, an alumnus of Presidency College.

The decision was taken at a meeting on Saturday afternoon. The award will be handed over to Banerjee during his visit to the city likely in December end. Banerjee was a student of Presidency College from 1979-81.

It has been decided that the teachers who had taught during Banerjee's time in Presidency, including Professor Mihir Rakshit, a noted scholar of Economics and some of Banerjee's fellow students will be invited to interact with him over lunch or dinner.

The earlier recipients of the prestigious award include Amartya Sen, Bimal Jalan, Sukanta Chowdhury, Somnath Chatterjee. In a bid to celebrate Banerjee's Nobel Prize, New Town Business Club will host a session of Banerjee's life and work on Tuesday.
