A day well-spent: Pronam takes over 400 members on 'Puja Parikrama' tour

Kolkata: Kolkata Police has arranged a Puja Parikrama for the elderly citizens of Pronam on Thursday.

On Panchami, a total of 410 Pronam members started the Puja Parikrama at 10:30 am aboard AC buses. Pronam, which is a joint initiative by the Kolkata Police and an NGO, had planned the trip beforehand.

According to the plan, two starting points were selected and the Pronam members who were selected for the day-long event were informed about the same. For the residents of South Kolkata, Tollygunge police station was the point of gathering, while DRO North office near Sukiya Street was the point in North Kolkata.

To provide entertainment while travelling, arrangements were made for baul song inside the buses. The elderly citizens were also provided with breakfast and lunch during the day-long Puja Parikrama.

According to the Administrative Officer of Pronam Sukla Taraphder, the elderly citizens were taken to

nine renowned Durga Pujas across the city. The whole programme was arranged jointly by the NGO and Kolkata Police.

Sources informed that police escort cars were provided to ensure a smooth and hassle-free trip for the elderly citizens. Police personnel and Pronam employees accompanied the Pronam members in every bus.

It was also instructed by senior Kolkata Police officials to inform Traffic Control Room (TCR) in case the buses got stranded in traffic congestion. Several Pronam members were seen dancing in a Puja pandal on the rhythm of dhaks.

The Puja organisers were informed about the visit as well. They also cooperated with the police and made special arrangements for the Pronam members. After the event, all the elderly citizens were taken back to the starting point, from where they went back to their homes.
