8-yr-old dies after falling from hosp's 5th floor while playing

KOLKATA: In a tragic incident, an eight-year-old boy died after falling from the fifth floor of the outdoor building of Malda Medical College and Hospital (MMCH) to its third floor while playing on the staircase railing on Friday morning.

Balbir Singh of Katihar in Bihar owns a snacks stall outside the MMCH. He stays at a rented house in Buraburitala of Malda. Like other days, he opened the stall and was busy with customers. His eight-year-old son was also there. While Balbir was busy with the customers, his son went to the fifth floor. While he was trying to slide down the staircase railing, the boy lost control and fell on the third floor. The boy was immediately rushed to the emergency department of the hospital with critical head injury, where he was declared brought dead. Controversy cropped up as to how the boy went to the fifth floor of the outdoor building unnoticed. The body has been sent for autopsy examination. Balbir told the police that his son was a patient of epilepsy and thus he used to take him along.
