7 pronounced guilty in 2012 constable murder case
Kolkata: The Barrackpore Court found seven persons guilty in the Kolkata Police constable murder case which took place in 2012. On Thursday, the court may announce the quantum of punishment after hearing the version of the guilty persons.
On March 8 in 2012, on the day of Holi, constable of
Entally police station Ashim Dam was beaten up badly by some miscreants at Bisharpara in Airport area, while he tried to save his niece from getting molested. He was admitted in a hospital, where he died after two days.
Later, Airport police station initiated a murder case and arrested the seven, who were pronounced guilty by the court on Wednesday.
It was also alleged that when Dam's family members tried to save him upon seeing him getting beaten up, they were also beaten up badly. Even his 78-year-old mother was not spared. Dam was thrashed using hockey sticks and iron rods and later stabbed using knives.
Two days after the incident, police arrested two miscreants identified as Abhijit Ghosh and Debu Mukherjee. After interrogating them, police were able to nab Prasenjit Dutta, Biswajit Ghosh, Kuntal Chakraborty, Batu Majumdar and Tapan Chandra.
Sources have informed that one more person, identified as Jabbar Ghosh, was also pronounced guilty but is still absconding.
