7 including woman held for murdering youth

BALURGHAT: Seven persons including a woman were held for their alleged involvement in murdering a youth. The incident took place in Kushmandi's Banihari area, which is around 72 km from here. The deceased was identified as Sohel Rana (23), whose body was recovered by police from a septic tank in his in-laws' residence.

On the basis of the written complaint lodged by the deceased's family members at Kushmandi police station, seven persons including Rana's wife Rajia Bibi and a civic-volunteer Kalendar Ali were arrested. They were produced in Balurghat Court.

A police source said the deceased's wife had an extramarital affair with Ali in absence of Rana, who worked as a labourer in New Delhi. Around three months ago Rana returned from Delhi and came to know that her wife had developed an affair with Ali. He warned Rajia not to keep any relationship with him.

Police said Ali and Rajia used to stay together in absence of Rana. Finding it difficult to stay together in presence of Rana, the duo with the help of Rajia's family members killed the deceased and kept his body concealed in a septic tank. Mpost
