65-year-old shot dead, accused absconding
Kolkata: A 65-year-old man was shot dead by some unidentified miscreants.
The incident occurred in the Goyalpothar area near Raigunge in North Dinajpur on Saturday night. It sparked tension among locals. The victim has been identified as Nitya Gopal Bala (65).
The family members of the victim lodged a complaint at the local police station on the basis of which police have started a probe.
The victim used to run a stall in a nearby market at Chakulia.
He was returning home from the market after closing his stall at around 10 pm on Saturday. While walking along the road side near Lodhi village, three miscreants stopped him and shot him from a
close quarter.
After receiving a bullet injury in his lower abdomen, the victim fell on the road.
On hearing the gun shot, locals rushed to the spot only to find him lying in a pool
of blood.
Locals rushed the victim to a nearby hospital where the doctors pronounced him brought dead.
Miscreants managed to flee the spot immediately after the incident. Police are yet to ascertain the motive behind the murder.
They are investigating if the elderly man had any rivalry with anyon e.
The family members of the deceased told police the victim was a good-natured person and he apparently had no rivalry with anyone.
The sleuths are interrogating other businessmen in the market. Raids are being conducted to nab
the culprits.
