6-yr-old dies after 4 pvt nursing homes refuse to admit her

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) initiated a probe against four nursing homes in Hooghly after parents of a 6-year-old girl lodged a complaint with the police holding the private healthcare units responsible for the death of their daughter.

On March 3, the six-year-old girl, Riya Sarkar was injured in a road accident in which a toto hit her near Hindmotor. She received severe injuries on her head and chest. Her parents took her to four nursing homes. Despite their cries for help, none of the four nursing homes had initiated her treatment saying that they didn't have necessary infrastructure for the treatment required for the girl.

The victim's parents first took her to the Relief Nursing Home. It has been alleged that without even properly "touching" the patient, the nursing home authorities refused to admit her.

After being refused by Relief Nursing Home, the helpless mother ran to Kamala Roy Nursing Home with her injured daughter in her lap. Repeated request of the woman to the doctors and other officials in the nursing home went unheard. They too refused to admit little Riya.

Her mother still cannot talk properly as she recollected the face of the girl asking a doctor in one of the nursing homes to give her some medicines as there was severe pain on her head and chest.

But the "heartless" nursing home authorities didn't pay heed even to the cries of a 6-year-old. From Kamala Roy Nursing Home, the parents took the girl to Aragya Niketan Nursing Home situated adjacent to Uttarpara Station in Hooghly. Interestingly, there too, the hospital authorities ran the same story saying that didn't have necessary infrastructure for her treatment. Among the four, Nilima Nursing Home was the last one where they took the girl.

After Nilima Nursing Home authorities refused to admit the girl, she was taken to SSKM Hospital. But according to the doctors in the hospital it was too late to take the girl there. She had succumbed to her injuries when she was taken to the hospital.

The victim's family members lodged a complaint with Uttarpara police station against all the four nursing homes and it is learnt that CID has taken up the probe in to the allegations.
