58-yr-old patient dies after being refused bed at SSKM, NRS & RG Kar

Kolkata: A 58-year-old woman from North 24-Parganas' Habra who had been suffering from heart-related ailments died at the Calcutta Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) on Friday morning.

The family members of the victim alleged that she was supposed to undergo bypass surgery but had been on the waiting list of patients at SSKM Hospital for a long time. There has been a long waiting list of the patients who need to undergo bypass surgery at SSKM. According to the family members, victim Sandhya Roy was first admitted to SSKM more than two-and-half-years ago. The hospital had released the patient as there was a long waiting list.

She experienced chest pain on Thursday morning when her family members rushed her to Habra State General Hospital and was later shifted to the district hospital in Barasat. The patient was again shifted to RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on Thursday night. The family members alleged that they were told that no bed was available at RG Kar and had to take her to SSKM's emergency ward. They were again told that there was no bed at SSKM, and she was taken to NRS Medical College. After allegedly being denied admission at NRS, the patient was finally taken to CMCH on Friday morning.
