5.0 Richter scale tremor felt in South Bengal districts

Kolkata: A tremor was felt at some places in South Bengal districts, including Hooghly and West Midnapore.

The magnitude of the tremor was 5.0 on the Richter scale and the intensity was moderate. According to the regional meteorological department, the time of origin of the earthquake was 6.33 pm and its epicenter was somewhere near Khanakul block in Hooghly district, at a depth of 10 km.

Concerned officials of the state Disaster Management department have initiated collecting information about the situation in the districts after the tremor was felt.
