50 held for cheating in govt exam

Kolkata: Fifty examinees were arrested for allegedly cheating in a competitive examination held on Sunday in several colleges of South Kolkata. Several mobile phones and other gadgets were seized from their possession.

According to the police, there was a competitive examination on Sunday for recruitment of peons in the courts of South 24-Parganas, which was held at several colleges of South Kolkata.

While entering the examination hall, examinees were checked but nothing suspicious was found. During examination, invigilators and some magistrates present at the examination hall smelled foulplay as the behaviour of some examinees were found to be suspicious.

When the magistrates ordered invigilators to search their bodies, several bluetooth devices, mobiles phones and other gadgets were found. Sources informed that the examinees had somehow managed to click a photo of the question paper and sent it to some persons outside.

Later, the same persons were prompting them answers over phone.

Around 50 examinees were arrested on Sunday for cheating, by Gariahat, Ballygunj, Jadavpur, Rabindra Sarobar, Netaji Nagar, Behala, Parnasree and Thakurpukur police stations. Sleuths suspect there might be a gang behind the cheating.

Some examinees confessed that their family members and close friends were helping them but investigators refused to believe their statements as the method used was technologically advanced.
