5 killed in 2 separate road accidents

Kolkata: Five youths were killed in two separate road accidents in the state.

In the first incident, three brothers riding a motorcycle were killed in a fatal road accident near Haldia on late Tuesday night.

The incident took place on National Highway 41 near Haldia. None of the victims were wearing headgears at the time of accident. The victims have been identified as Seikh Samsur Jaman (32), Seikh Noor Muhammad (30) and Seikh Saheed (35).

Police said the bike hit a stationery truck in the Maitimore area. They had to attend a programme at Talpukur area of Haldia.

When the victims were returning home at Tamluk on late Tuesday night, they rammed into a truck from behind. All the three brothers fell on the road. Locals rushed the victims to a nearby hospital where two of them were declared brought dead, while another succumbed to his injuries

later at the hospital.

After being informed police reached the spot and recovered the motorcycle that was badly damaged in the accident.

According to the preliminary investigation, police suspect the victims could not see the truck standing on the road side due to the mist. Police have started a detailed probe to ascertain the exact cause of the incident.

As the bike was running at a high speed, it could not be controlled.

Police have later sent their bodies for autopsy. It was learnt that the district administration might extend financial benefits to the bereaved family members.

In a similar incident two bothers — Aliul Momin (22) and Rahim Momin (20), both residents of Samsergunj in Murshidabad died after their motorcycle they were riding on was hit by a speeding truck on National Highway 34 on Tuesday night.

Both the victims were carpenters. They were not wearing headgears,

police said.

Both of them were declared brought dead by doctors at a local hospital.
