4th edition of New Town book fair inaugurated by Bidhannagar Mayor

Kolkata: Sabyasachi Dutta, mayor Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation (BMC), in presence of eminent poets and intellectuals inaugurated the fourth edition of New Town book fair on Thursday evening.
The fair that has gained immense popularity among the residents of New Town will have 120 stalls out of which 80 will display books while the remaining 40 will include food stalls, those selling pickles and costume jewellery.
Noted publisher Sabitendranath Roy of Mitra Ghosh will take part in an adda session titled Golpo Dadur Asar. Amar Mon Chobite Bardhaman written by well-known essayist Prasanta Maji was released by Joy Goswami. Maji had spent his prime days like school and colleges in Burdwan and his memories of the district town have been expressed in the book through lucid language.
The main purpose of the fair is to develop interest among the youngsters to read Bengali books. The publishers will give heavy discount to introduce such books among the youngsters.
The fair is being held at the ground of Swapno Bhor popularly known as the New Town Mela ground. The stalls have been decorated beautifully and there will be cultural shows in the evening.
The second edition of the national Poetry festival will be held at the same venue on January 5. It may be recalled that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has set up a Kabita Academy with poet Subodh Sarkar as its chairman. Poets and elocutionists from all over the state will take part in the festival. New Town is coming up fast as a cultural hub after Kolkata.
