38-year-old sets himself ablaze

Madan Prasad Gupta (38), the resident of a three-storeyed apartment on Ashutosh Mukherjee Road, committed suicide by setting himself on fire. He was taken to SSKM Hospital where he was declared dead. Neither did police get any suicide note nor did they suspect any foulplay. Locals reported that smoke was coming out of a room housed in the third floor of the building on Wednesday afternoon. Police and Fire and Emergency Services personnel immediately arrived at the spot. They broke open the door as it was locked from inside and found that fire had damaged a portion of his room. Police recovered the charred body of Gupta.
