377 passengers of multiple flights taken to quarantine facility
Kolkata: After 165 passengers of an Emirates flight were quarantined on Thursday morning, 377 more passengers of multiple flights who arrived at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International (NSCBI) Airport in Kolkata between 12 am on Thursday night and 10 am on Friday, have been handed over to the medical team of state Health department in order to take them to the quarantine facility in New Town.
According to NSCBI Airport authorities, passengers who were coming from Gulf countries were already spotted before the arrival of the flights. As soon as the flights landed, passengers who were coming from Gulf countries were segregated from other passengers.
They were subsequently handed over to the medical team of the state Health department, in order to take them to the quarantine facility. Other passengers were scanned using thermal guns and allowed to go after being sure that they were not suffering from fever. Earlier, it was decided that every passenger coming from Gulf countries and those who have visited China, Iran, Republic of Korea, Italy, Spain, France and Germany on or after February 15, will be quarantined. It was later decided that the Indians coming from Italy and Republic of Korea, who have started after 12:00 hours, GMT on March 18, will have to produce a COVID-19 negative certificate at the airport.
Sources informed that apart from checking of passengers, the airport is also being sanitised multiple times throughout the day. The staff of the airlines and other government agencies have been instructed to follow the guidelines by the Union Health and Family Welfare department strictly.
