35-yr-old techie held for 'bypassing Indian gateways'

Kolkata: Bidhannagar Police arrested a 35-year-old techie from Delhi on charges of running a racket to enable foreign calls bypassing the "valid Indian gateways" that led to a loss of government tax of a few crores of rupees.
After the matter came to notice, Telecom Enforcement Resource and Monitoring (TERM) Cell that has its regional office at Salt Lake had lodged a complaint with Electronics Complex police station under Bidhannagar Commissionerate.
Manish Kumar, an officer of the TERM Cell, had lodged the complaint with the police on March 16 in 2015 and the police had initiated a case on charges of cheating (Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code), criminal conspiracy (120B IPC) and Section 20/21 of the Indian Telegraph Act.
The police had initiated a probe on the basis of the compliant and arrested the prime accused Abhishek Ranjan from Delhi on Wednesday.
Investigation had revealed that Abhishek is a B-Tech and he underwent the course in a top institute in Mumbai.
Based on his technical knowledge, he had initiated a business and took an office at Sector V in Salt Lake. He owned the company named Telspin Project Private Limited.
Abhishek, who is originally a resident of Peera Garhi Village at Mianwali Nagar in Delhi, had managed to "enable foreign calls bypassing valid Indian gateways" and it had resulted in a huge loss of government tax.
It may be recalled that three persons were arrested earlier in similar connections. The police had interrogated the accused and came to know about the whereabouts of Abhishek.
A team comprising officers from Electronics Complex police station went to Delhi after receiving a tip-off. They had been keeping a track about the movement of Abhishek in Delhi. Finally, they conducted a raid in one of his hideouts and arrested him.
