32-year-old businessman shot dead in Canning

A 32-year-old businessman was shot dead at Canning in South 24 Parganas late on Friday night.

Police said the victim, Sahadeb Mondal, was attacked when he was returning home last night. He was shot dead from point blank range and was declared brought dead when taken to hospital.

The police are yet to ascertain the exact reason behind the murder but suspect that old business rivalry might have led to the murder.

The victim's family members alleged that one Pintu, who is a local resident at Shyamaprasad colony, was behind the murder. Local people staged a demonstration demanding arrest of the accused.

Police came to know that there had been a dispute with the victim and Pintu a few days ago as the latter had been doing a business by causing harm to nature. Police suspect that it could be the reason behind the murder. Police conducted search operations at different hideouts of the accused but are yet to arrest him.
