31-yr-old mother, 2 daughters charred to death in Tehatta

Kolkata: Mystery shrouds the death of a 31-year-old housewife and her two daughters whose charred bodies were found inside a room of their house in Nadia's Tehatta area.
Police are yet to ascertain the exact reason that led to the fire in their room but the woman's family members alleged that there might be some foul play. Police are not ruling out the possibility of deaths caused due to the fire.
The victims have been identified as Sagari Bibi (31) and her daughters — Halima Khatun (6) and Sarvina Khatun (4).
The incident took place early on Wednesday morning when locals saw smoke billowing out of the house situated at Naudapara of Tehatta area at around 6 a.m.
They went to the house and started to douse the flames. A few of them also tried to enter the room but it was not possible as the flames were strong and were spreading fast.
A few took some time but managed to enter the room by breaking a wooden window and found the three charred bodies on the bed. Police and neighbours rushed them to a nearby hospital where the mother and her two daughters were declared brought dead. A fire tender was pressed into action to douse the flames.
The cops initiated a probe in this connection and conducted a search at the place of occurrence.
According to the police and district fire officials, an electrical short circuit might have led to the accident. Police are also investigating if there was any kerosene oil container and also probing to ascertain if the mother set her two children on fire and later committed suicide.
The cops also spoke to the locals and came to know that there were regular altercations between the woman and her husband who used to torture her after coming back home inebriated. Her husband was away when the accident took place.
Forensic experts have also visited the spot and collected samples to ascertain whether it is a case of homicide or suicide.
