30-year-old youth found hanging inside Digha hotel
Kolkata: Mystery shrouds the death of a 30-year-old youth whose body was found hanging from the ceiling fan inside a hotel room in Digha.
The victim has been identified as Abhijit Dutta (30). A resident of Howrah's Liluah, Dutta went to Digha, driving a car belonging to a Howrah based doctor's family. The doctor had engaged Dutta as the driver of the car around a week ago.
According to police, the doctor, his wife and younger brother boarded a hotel at New Digha along with the victim. Police also came to know during investigation that the doctor's younger brother and the victim were friends as they used to study in the same school. All the three youth, including the doctor consumed alcohol inside a room of the hotel till late Thursday night, while the doctor's wife had been sleeping in an adjacent room. It was learnt that all the three persons had fallen asleep inside the room following consuming alcohol.
The doctor and his family members alleged that the victim went to the room of the woman and tried to sexually abuse her. As she opposed and shouted, the victim youth left her room. The doctor told the police that they were out on the beach on Friday morning. When they returned to the hotel room, they found the victim hanging from the ceiling fan, the door of the room was locked from inside.
The incident triggered tension among other tourists who boarded rooms in the same hotel. The matter was immediately reported to the local police station. Police reached the spot and recovered the dead body.
The investigators are yet to confirm if the victim committed suicide or there was any foul play behind the incident. Police are looking into all possible angles behind the death of the driver.
They are interrogating all the three members of the family in this connection. The body has been sent for autopsy.
