30 Italian delegates at BGBS

Kolkata: Thirty delegates from Italy will the join the two-day Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS), which will be held at the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre in New Town, on Thursday.

Italy is taking part in the Bengal Global Business Summit as a partner country for the third time in a row, with the presence of the Italian Ambassador Lorenzo Angeloni. Delegates from two different places in Italy — Lombardy and Caserta — are coming this year.

Fabrizio Sala, vice-president of Lombardy, and minister for Research, Innovation, University, Export and Internationalisation are heading the delegation from Lombardy.

Following Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's visit to Italy in September 2018, the talks with President Attilio Fontana, which were fruitful, has made Italy more enthusiastic in forging ahead with Italy and Bengal ties.

A Memorandum of Understanding for regional cooperation will be signed in course of this year's BGBS. Areas of interest are manufacturing and industrial cooperation, technical skill development, research and innovation, promotion of industrial growth, technology and manufacturing including investments.

Luca Donelli, part of the Lombardy delegation and president of Lombardy Energy Cleantech Cluster and Prof. Gianpiero Mastinu secretary general cum Cluster Manager of Lombardy mobility cluster will accompany the Lombardy delegation. Caserta delegation is being headed by Luigi Traettino, president of Confindustria, Caserta. The delegation will have more than 20 delegates representing companies coming from the Italian province active in various sectors such as jewellery, dairy products, tourism, freight forwarding, plastics, building and construction materials," stated Damiano Francovigh, the Italian consulate general to Kolkata.

United Kingdom is sending a big delegation to the summit. Crispin Simon, Her Majesty's trade commissioner to south Asia will come to attend the meeting along with Helen Dowberry senior portfolio manager, UK research and innovation. Rakesh Roshan, CEO OxSight Limited, will also join the BGBS. Japan is sending a 22-member delegation to the event as well.

To attract investment, this year's Summit would focus on priority areas like agri-business, IT and ITes, MSMEs and skills, hospitality and tourism, logistics and transport, and infrastructure. The sessions would include sector-wise discussions to project possibilities and potential of Bengal.
