3-yr-old-girl has 8 needles inside her body: Doctors

The three-and-a-half-year-old girl who was a victim of sexual abuse and torture has eight needles inside her body, the doctors at SSKM hospital said on Sunday.

A medical board has been set up and it will decide

how the needles will be taken out and whether the baby will be able to withstand the surgery.

She has developed infections and steps have been taken to ensure so that it does not spread and affect the whole body. Her mother has also been admitted to the hospital and is undergoing treatment. However, the police is yet to arrest the persons who had abused and tortured her.

As the mother is unable to talk, the police could not record her statement. The mother had brought the girl to a local doctor with complaints of fever and nausea on Friday evening. While examining the baby, the doctor found injury marks all over her body including her private parts. She immediately called up the police.

The police took her to Purulia district hospital from where she was shifted to SSKM. The doctors at SSKM said the X Ray which was done showed that there are eight needles inside her body. She has been admitted to the Paediatric Intensive care Unit (PICU).

"Such inhuman torture is unbelievable," said Dr Sashi Panja, minister of state for Women and Child Development and Social Welfare. Sunanda Mukherjee, chairperson state Women's Commission said stern action should be taken against the accused.
