3 Sub-Inspectors suspended, IC closed for taking bribe
Kolkata: Three Sub-Inspectors (SI) of Police working at the English Bazar police station have been suspended and an Inspector in-Charge (IC) has been closed for allegedly taking bribe from an accused person who is reportedly a Bangladeshi national and helping him to get bail.
According to sources, approximately a month ago the accused Bangladeshi national was arrested for illegally coming to India and obtaining forged documents.
Also, it was alleged that the accused person had sold a portion of land which belonged to a trust owned by him. After being arrested, he was remanded to police custody after being produced at the local court. The Bangladeshi national was granted bail after completion of police remand.
Following this, controversy cropped up regarding how an accused person, who was arrested on charges of illegal immigration and obtaining forged documents, got bail.
During a preliminary probe by the Additional Superintendent of Police (Addl. SP), Dipak Sarkar, several ambiguities came up.
Based on a report by Sarkar, SP, Malda, Alok Rajoria on Saturday suspended three SIs identified as Subir Sarkar, Tanay Chakraborty and Narbu Dugpa and instructed to close (relieve from duty) Inspector in-Charge (IC) of English Bazar police station, identified as Amalendu Biswas.
Departmental inquiry has been initiated against the four accused police officers for allegedly taking bribe and neglecting investigation.
Triguna Roy, a police Inspector who was in charge of Crime Monitoring Cell, has taken over the charge of IC, English Bazar, as per instruction from the SP.
