3 sentenced to 5 years over Visva Bharati cheating case

BOLPUR: A court here on Thursday sentenced former Vice-Chancellor of Visva Bharati University Dilip Kumar Sinha, ex-Registrar Dilip Mukherjee and former teacher Mukti Deb to five years imprisonment for forgery and conspiracy.

Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate, Bolpur, Aurobindo Mishra also ordered the three convicted persons to pay a fine of Rs 1,000 each. The court on Wednesday had convicted the three in the case. Sinha, Mukherjee and Deb appealed for interim bail on Thursday after the judgment was passed but the court denied it. Deb had worked as a lecturer in the Mathematics department of the university, teaching post-graduate students for around six years, without having the required qualification.
