3 remaining HS exams to take place after June 10: Partha

Kolkata: State Education minister Partha Chatterjee said on Wednesday that the remaining three Higher Secondary examinations will be held after June 10 and the results of Madhyamik examination will be published after the situation normalises.

The Education department is hopeful that results of Madhyamik examination may be brought out in the month of July, provided that the lockdown is not extended beyond June 10. The educational institutions in the state are closed till June 10 as a preventive measure to combat the spread of COVID-19.

"The schedule of the three remaining HS examinations will be announced in consultation with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee after June 10. We have also given the nod to begin the process of evaluation of answer scripts of the already concluded HS examinations. The evaluation process has not started because of the lockdown," Chatterjee said.

A senior official of the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Examination said that the answer scripts could not be distributed among the examiners because of the lockdown.

The evaluation of the answer scripts of Madhyamik examination is almost complete but in the current situation it is not possible to announce any date.

"The Council will definitely come up with a logistics plan so that the answer scripts of HS can be distributed for evaluation purpose among the concerned examiners," said Sandip Banerjee, headmaster of a government-aided school in North 24-Parganas.

The minister said that the decision about semesters in the universities will be decided in consultation with the university officials. The state universities have already made it clear that they will conduct the final semester examinations after the lockdown is lifted.
