3 persons killed after loaded truck collides with tanker
Kolkata: Three persons were killed in an accident that took place near Nandakumar in East Midanpore on
Monday morning.
Police said a loaded truck collided head-on with an oil tanker on National Highway 41 in the Dakshindhalara area, a few meters away from Nandakumar. The truck loaded with coal was going to Mechada from Haldia, while the oil tanker was plying through the other lane in the
opposite direction.
According to locals, the oil tanker was running at a high speed when the driver lost control over the vehicle and it ran over the divider and hit the truck running on the
other lane.
The driver of the oil tanker and two helpers were severely injured in the incident.
Police with the help of the locals brought the three victims out of the mangled portion of the oil tanker and rushed them Tomluk district hospital where the doctors pronounced all of them brought dead.
The driver of the truck and the helper managed to escape injuries and fled the spot after the accident leaving the vehicle at the spot. Police later seized both the vehicles. Eyewitnesses told police both the vehicles were running at high speed at the time of accident.
The incident caused traffic jam in the area for a few hours in the morning. Senior police officers from the district rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. Both the vehicles which were damaged in the accident had been removed from the place. The traffic movement gradually became normal.
A senior district police officer who visited the spot said the victims killed in the accident are yet to be ascertained. The situation was soon brought under the control and traffic movement resumed. Police have started a detailed probe into the incident to find out the exact cause of the accident.
They are also examining if the oil tanker had developed technical snag before the accident. The investigating officers are conducting raids to nab the driver of the truck who has been absconding since the accident occurred.
