Three more persons were arrested in connection with the sexual harassment of tribal women in Raiganj that had led to major trouble in the town in North Dinajpur.
Earlier, police had arrested four persons in this connection and with Monday's arrest, a total of seven persons were arrested.
It may be recalled that a few days ago, four tribal women were sexually harassed when they were waiting in a bus stand at Raiganj. Two of them had gone missing after the incident and later they were found in Malda district.
The incident had led to major law and order trouble. On Friday, a large section of the tribal populace held a rally in Raiganj protesting against the incident and demanding arrest of the accused. The situation turned worse when a section of the agitators set the bus stand on fire. Some shops were also damaged and set on fire. A day after, some traders in the area had protested against such an incident.
The police had taken all necessary steps and brought the situation under control. The police have already arrested seven persons in this connection.
Acting on a tip-off, a team comprising policemen from local police station conducted a raid and arrested three of them from one of their hideouts situated in the outskirts of the town.
A senior police officer said that the police are taking proper steps to arrest others who were involved in the incident. Three of them who were arrested on Monday would be able to reveal about the whereabouts of others who are still at large.
